Obituary

Richard W. “Rick” Casner, 66, of Mifflintown, went home to be with the Lord at 8:45 AM on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg.

Born on April 16, 1955 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is the son of Robert P. “Chink” Casner of Mifflintown and the late Mary Jane (Eaton) Casner.

On April 26, 1980, he married his surviving wife, Janice E. (King) Casner with whom he was blessed to share over 41 years of marriage.

In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by: two daughters Nichole L. Keiter and her husband Shaun of Mifflintown and Jaclyn A. Deck and her husband Casey of Dunmore; five grandchildren, Dylan Keiter, Emmy Keiter, Harper Keiter, Gabrielle Deck, and Truxton Deck; one sister, Sharon C. Mingle and her husband Ed of Mifflin; one brother, Stephen L. Casner of Mifflintown; three brother in laws, Roland J. King Jr. of Mifflintown, Mark Y. King and his wife Lois of Port Royal, and Roy T. King and his wife Fran of McAlisterville; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Dozer.

Mr. Casner was a 1973 graduate of Juniata High School in Mifflintown and a 1975 graduate of Thompson Institute in Harrisburg.

His employment included working as the MIS Director and having over 25 years of service at Empire Kosher, Inc., in Mifflintown; working with Computer Programming and IT at Fences and More in Mifflintown for more than 17 years; and currently was employed at Superior Builders Supply in Loysville where he enjoyed working in all the different areas of the business.

He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Mifflintown, Lost Creek Golf Course in Oakland Mills, and the VFW Post 5863 in Mifflintown.

Rick enjoyed golfing and loved to bowl; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and vacationing to the Outer Banks.

All Services and Interment will be Private.

To Rick's beloved family:

I was so very saddened to read of Rick's passing in the Juniata Sentinel!! When I think of Rick, I always envision his smiling; I don't think I ever saw him without one! Getting upset or angry didn't even seem to be a part of his DNA, so needless to say, he was such a joy to be around! My main remembrances of him were of his joining us on water skiing trips to Raystown Lake in the late 70's; of course, we always had a good time!

A good friend sent me a poignant sympathy card when my dad passed away, and since it is so fitting of Rick, I'll share it with you, his loved ones:

A good life leaves behind seeds that keep on growing. Your loved one's stories, his values, and his love
of family all live on in you...what a wonderful legacy!

God bless you during this very difficult time!

First of all my deepest condolences to Jan and all of the Casner family especially Nichole and Jackie. I'm so sorry for all of you. The decade of the nineties started out pretty rough for me but thank God i had the Casners to lean on during those difficult times. They made me feel like family and I sincerely thank you for that. I t was about this time Rick and I joined up as partners during competitive events on the golf course. They say golf can be a true test of the measurement of a man. Rick passed that test with flying colors. He stood tall in victory and defeat. We pretty much spent a whole decade playing golf together and Rick's stellar play dragged me with him into the winner's circle more times than not. Never in all that time did I hear a harsh word at my failings on the course. We just always had fun both on the course and off. The fact that our children laughed and played together made it all the more special. Our last victory together was when we were probably both past our prime in the rain shortened 'LA' open in '99. We laughed the night before that we could be one day wonders if we kept our heads focused. And sure enough we did it! Thanks for the memories pal. Hit em long and straight in heaven my friend. It was good to know ya. Pete Kohan

As Rick & Jan’s next door neighbor, I could always count on seeing Rick every Spring & Summer weekend mowing his lawn and counted on our weekly wave to one another. I will certainly miss those small “hellos” and send my thoughts to Jan & the girls wishing them peace and comfort with their family. Your neighbor & friend, Peggy Shank

So many wonderful memories growing up in the house at 101 Bridge Street, Mifflintown. My sister Patsy and I felt like the little sisters of Rick, Sharon, and Steve. We all looked up to you Rick. I can still remember you telling us younger kids, "Listen here I'm the oldest so I'm the boss." And yes we did follow your lead. God bless you. I have a ton of stories about the 2 Casner families at 101 Bridge Street
