Dorothy M. Benner, 81, of Thompsontown, passed away at 6:25 AM on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at her residence.
Born on January 26, 1940 in Lewistown, Mifflin Co., she is a daughter of the late Layton and Dorothy L. (Rankin) Eckard.
On November 23, 1963, she married her surviving husband, Carl L. Benner, Jr., with whom she was blessed to share over 57 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Roger C. Benner and his wife Brenda and Penny L. Steigleman and her husband Scott, all of Thompsontown; three grandchildren, Maria R. Gentile and her husband Nick, Travis C. Benner and his wife Jordan, and Trevin S. Steigleman; four great grandchildren, Ace A. Gentile, Jax J. Gentile, Gia G. Gentile, and Eve E. Gentile; three siblings, Sarah Walters of Port Royal, Jack Eckard and his wife Sandra of Danville, and Eva Sieber and her husband Robert of Mifflintown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Stydinger and one brother, Robert Eckard.
Dorothy was a 1958 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and was employed and retired after 25 years of service as a Fiscal Technician with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Comptrollers Office.
In her childhood, she was one of the first recipients of the Polio vaccine and became a poster child for the March of Dimes.
Her hobbies included crafts and bingo but most importantly she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her Saturday morning visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from the Locust Run Cemetery, Thompsontown with Pastor Jerry Wise officiating.
There will be no public viewing or visitation.
