Obituary for Esther K. "Essie" Rhine
Esther Kathryn “Essie” Rhine, 92, formerly of Mifflintown died at 6:10 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on April 13, 1928, in Mount Union, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Stewart A., Sr. and Kathryn (Watts) Ellis. On June 30, 1948, she married her late husband, R. Eugene “Gene” Rhine, with whom she was blessed to share nearly 69 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 12, 2017.
Surviving are her daughters, Roberta “Bobbi” Rodgers and her husband Stephen, of Alloway, NJ Kaye Clark and her husband Dennis, Marilyn Garver, all of Mifflintown; sibling, Connie Quigley, Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, Ruth O’Neal of Berry’s Personal Care of Mifflintown, Steward A. Ellis and his wife Kris of Belleville; grandchildren, Jonathan Clark, of West Virginia, Joshua Garver, of Milroy, Abigail Rodgers, of Delaware, Rebecca Rodgers, of New Jersey; and she leaves behind 10 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cassidy and Courtney Clark, Autumn Garver Peachey, Wyatt and Ellee Garver, Kathryn, Jacob and Zachary Layton and Gabrielle Ferguson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Clark, two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Arnold and Roberta J. “Bobbi” Ellis.
Mrs. Rhine was a 1946 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, both of Mifflintown, she also volunteered for the Juniata Meals on Wheels.
She had been employed as a beautician for the former Esther Lauver’s Beauty Shop of Mifflintown and she had served as the Judge of Elections for Mifflintown Borough for many years.
Essie loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers and spending time with her family and friends.
All services will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Rhine’s memory to the Friends of Locust Grove, 69 Cottage Road, Mifflin, PA 17058.
