Obituary for Kathryn L. "Kay" Stuck (Bortell)

Kathryn L. “Kay” Stuck, 86, of Mifflintown, passed away at 8:14 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at her home.

Born on September 19, 1934, in Belleville, Mifflin County, she is a daughter of the late Melvin K. Bortell and Margaret K. (Alexander) Rodriguez. On August 14, 1955, she married her surviving husband, Dr. Kenneth O. Stuck, with whom she was blessed to share more than 65 years of marriage before her passing.

Surviving are a son, Kenton O. Stuck of State College, a brother, Thomas J. Bortell and his wife Adrienne of Lenox, MA; also, many cherished extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis A. Bortell.

Kay was a 1952 graduate of Lewistown High School. She also graduated in 1954 from Penn Hall Junior College and was voted Queen of the Winchester Apple Festival, representing the College.

Her memberships included: the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown and she was a former member and past president of the Mifflintown Women’s Club and had served as a Girl Scout Leader.

In earlier life, she was employed at her parent’s shoe store, the former Tom Johnson’s Shoe Store in Lewistown. For most of her married life, she was a homemaker, taking care of many generations of her family.

Kay was the perfect wife, mother, and friend who valued her family, friends, church, and community.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 25, 2021 from the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown with the Vicar Samuel J. Leister and the Rev. William N. Esborn officiating. Interment will follow at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Church.

Due to the current COVID pandemic, face masks and social distancing are required.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of In Home Services of Central PA Home Care Agency and the staff of UPMC Hospice for their care and compassion; a thank you to Patricia Brode (sister in law) and Jodi Sterling (niece) for their constant communications with Kay; and lastly, the family would like to thank Anne Supplee for her daily care and compassion plus the many acts of kindness from all of the neighbors and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Stuck’s memory can be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
