Obituary for Dorothy R. Sankey



Dorothy R. Sankey, 77, of McAlisterville, passed away at 11:27 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.

Born on June 17, 1943 in Richfield, Juniata Co, she is a daughter of the late Robert Naylor and Maude (Spade) Reynolds.

On June 30, 1962, she was married to her surviving husband, Robert B. Sankey with whom she was blessed to share more than 58 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Melody C. Huffman of Thompsontown, Kelly J. Tussey and her husband Jerry of Winter Garden, FL, and Dennis R. Sankey and his wife Jennifer of McAlisterville; siblings, Wilma Brobeck, Thelma Brobeck, Kathy Arbogast, Carolyn Reynolds, Valerie Reynolds, Keith Naylor, Robert Naylor, and Ruth Ann Haas; Sam Weimer and Larry Weimer who were like brothers to her; nine grandchildren, Megan Huffman, Kayla Huffman, Daniel Huffman, Nicholas Sankey, Ryan Sankey, Brea Tussey, Jake Sankey, Lily Sankey, and Leah Sankey; one great grandson, Jensin Hosler; and her faithful canine companion, Bobo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Anthony M. “Tony” Sankey on June 17, 2015; siblings, Robert Reynolds, Velma Fite, George Reynolds, William Reynolds, and Christopher Reynolds; and Dave Weimer who was like a brother to her.

Mrs. Sankey was a 1961 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus.

She was employed as the Head Dietitian at Brookline Retirement Village in Mifflintown and the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin. She also served as the Head Cook at the County Line Restaurant in Richfield and had sold Avon Products for many years.

In earlier life, she attended the Faith Lutheran Church in Richfield.

Dorothy loved antiquing, going to sales and flea markets, cooking, and baking; however, she cherished the time spent with her family.

The Sankey family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Geisinger Lewistown Hospital for their care and compassion given to Dorothy during her stay.

Public Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 PM, Monday, December 28, 2020 at Goodwill Cemetery in Bunkertown with Jodi L. Strawser officiating.

There will be no public viewing or visitation.
