Obituary for Verna L. Shoop

Verna L. Shoop, 100, of East Waterford, passed away at 3:46 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on August 4, 1920 in Beale Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Albert K. and Ethel (Henry) Moyer. On April 16, 1949, she married her late husband, Dean F. Shoop with whom she was blessed to share more than 67 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 25, 2016.
Surviving are her children, Frederick M. Shoop, and his wife Susan, of Port Royal, Doris L. Lockard and her husband David, of Mt. Joy, Donald A. Shoop and his wife Malia, of East Waterford; a sister, Phyllis Hackenberger of Center, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Moyer.
Mrs. Shoop was a long time active member of the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, where she served as the pianist and organist for many years. She was also a member of the Pollyanna’s and served on the Missionary committee of the church. She was also a member and secretary of the former Dorsett Grange No. 1888 of Concord, the East Waterford Fire Co., and the Lack Tuscarora EMS. In earlier life she was a member of the PTA of the Lack Tuscarora Elementary school.
She was a 1938 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and for her married life she was a home maker and worked along beside her husband on their farm, Shoop Farms, of East Waterford.
With her gift and love of music, she started at a young age playing the organ at the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia and through her love of music she will be long remembered by many for teaching piano lessons. Square dancing with her late husband Dean was something they enjoyed together, however; she always enjoyed the time that she spent with her family and friends.
A public graveside funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from the East Waterford Cemetery with Rev. John C. Park officiating.
For those that wish, memorial donations in Mrs. Shoop’s memory may be made to the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 174, East Waterford, PA 17021.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
