Obituary for Janice Y. Faust (Summy)

Janice (Jan) Summy Faust of Valley View Retirement Center in Belleville passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.

Born a twin on September 7, 1943, Jan was the daughter of Hoyd and Miriam (Ulsh) Summy of Millerstown and the wife of Fred A. Faust, formerly of Thompsontown, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2016.

Jan is survived by her sister Joan Summy Long of Liverpool and three step-children, Joel Faust and his wife, Karen; Jeffrey Faust and his wife, Teresa; and Dana Droschini and her husband, Michael, all of Brockway; seven grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a step-son, Jason Faust; and a step-grandson, Jason Faust, Jr.

Jan graduated from Greenwood High School in Millerstown in 1961, then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Bucknell University in 1965. She was certified and taught Life Sciences, at Penn Argyle, and at Lower Allen Junior High School in Camp Hill.

Jan and Fred married and lived in Thompsontown until downsizing in 2006/07 to move to Valley View Continuing Care Retirement Center, where they lived during their senior years.

Jan and Fred loved to camp in PA state parks, as well as watch football games, especially those of PSU and their favorite professional teams. Jan also had great joy in playing the piano and participating in Bible Studies and the Activities programs at Valley View.

Jan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Millerstown and later attended the Methodist Church of Thompsontown and Locust Run, whose congregations sent many beautiful and encouraging cards over the years. Jan also greatly appreciated, and was encourage by, the many hospital visits by Chaplin Nelson Roth of Valley View.

Jan’s favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace” and song “Look for me at Jesus Feet,” by the Booth Brothers, which we anticipate with great joy one day! (John 3:16).

Public Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 PM, Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown, with Pastor John Briggs officiating.

There will be no public viewing or visitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
