Obituary for James R. "Jim" Doughten
James R. “Jim” Doughten, 90, of Mifflintown (Rockville), passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on January 5, 1930, in Millerstown, Perry County, he was a son of the late Alvin R. and Mary T. (Taylor) Doughten. His first wife Violet P. (Pierce) Doughten preceded him in death on August 12, 2004 and he is survived by his second wife Alma (Isenberg) Leonard-Doughten.
In addition to his second wife he is survived by three daughters, Nancy D. Renninger and her husband Ed, of Gifford, Dee D. Martin and her husband Tim, of Thompsontown, DeAnna K. Fenicle, of Carlisle, six grandchildren, Jason Renninger and his companion Renee, Rachel Renninger, Stacy Genzler, Heather Hockenberry and her husband Adam, Sarah Fenicle and Brandon Fenicle also 3 great-grandchildren, MacKenna Banks, Logan Genzler and Emmett Hockenberry. A step daughter, Susan Brown and her husband, Dwaine and their family, Port Royal.
Mr. Doughten was a graduate of Patton Boys School, Elizabethtown, a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and had been currently attending the First Baptist Church of Mifflintown. His other memberships included the Union Lodge No. 324, F.&A.M., A.A.S.R. Consistory, Valley of Harrisburg, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Forrest No. 88, the Zembo Shrine, and he had served on the board of directors for the Union Cemetery Assoc.
He retired as a master carpenter from the Carpenters union and he had worked locally for various construction companies.
With his gift of artistry, Jim was a renowned woodworker creating many works of art in his woodshop. He loved the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penn State Football. He took great pride in maintaining the grounds around his home; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
All services will be private with Pastor Ron Shupe and Pastor Caleb Hanna officiating. Interment will be in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
