Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Heister

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, Robert (Bob) Heister, of McAlisterville, loving Husband, Father and Pap went to be home with Jesus at the age of 75. Bob was born at his boyhood home in Bratton Township, Mattawana on January 8, 1945. Bob was part of the 1960 Mifflin County Babe Ruth state champ baseball team. He graduated from Rothrock High School in 1962. He worked many years for Pennebaker’s Cabinet Factory and later Wood-Mode. He was forced to retire early due to battling cancer.
He was a Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving at a front line unit in a zone of armed combat until his honorable discharge on September 16, 1967.
He is survived by his five brothers and sister, Ronald Heister, and his wife Bernadette of McVeytown; Larry Heister, and his wife Velma of Granville; Darwin Heister, and his wife Patricia of McVeytown; Carl Heister of Camp Hill, sister-in-law Joan (Brubaker) Heister of Telford and Richard Heister of Mattawana, and a sister, Jane Cramer, and her husband Mark of Mifflintown. Bob was preceded in death by a brother Darl “John” Heister of Telford.
Him and his wife Evelyn Louise (Willoughby) just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family in November 2019. He is survived by his wife whom he married on November 22, 1969 at the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his two sons, D. Robert and Anne (Thawley) Heister of Cocolamus; and Chad and Cindy (Reed) Heister of Thompsontown. Grandchildren; Nicholas, Jared, Albert, Ryan, Matthew and Elly Heister.
Robert was the grandson of the late Church Elder Charles E. and Leah (Kauffman) Heister; James and Ethel (Bubb) Allison. He was the son of the late C. William and Marian (Allison) Heister of Mattawana.
Bob had a heart for God, God’s Word and God’s people. He had a spiritual gift for being a helper. He was a member at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ church and also attended First Baptist Church of Mifflintown. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunshine class teacher, trustee and planning activities for senior adult ministries for Cedar Grove. He loved the Phillies, Eagles, Penn State football, hunting, fishing, reading the Scriptures, going to Roxbury Holiness Camp meeting, walking in the woods, and being an active member at the McAlisterville Senior Center; most importantly, he will be remembered as a man who loved to spend time with his family and faithfully attended his grandkids school and sporting events.
There will be a private graveside service at the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown, with Pastor Ken Hepner officiating. A public celebration of life will be held at the Cedar Grove Church at a later time.
