Obituary for Betty J. Horning (Kennedy)



Betty J. Horning, 97, of McAlisterville, passed away at 6:05 AM on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.

Born on February 25, 1922 in Lewistown, Mifflin Co, she is a daughter of the late Clarence and Clara (Cree) Kennedy.

On December 27, 1941, she married her late husband, Glenn W. “Chubb” Horning with whom she was blessed to share over 63 years of marriage before his passing on April 14, 2005.

She is survived by her son, Dennis L. Horning of McAlisterville; two sisters, Winnie Bohrman and Dorthea Zeiders and her husband Karl all of Mifflintown; two grandchildren, Toby Horning and his wife Shelly and Denise Brubaker and her husband Deron; and four great-grandchildren, Kasi Horning and her fiancé Nick Palopoli, Carson Horning, Amara Brubaker, and Cole Brubaker.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Schengost and Jacquelin “Jackie” Price; and five brothers, Clarence, Preston, Robert, Bill, and Jay Kennedy.

Betty was a 1940 graduate of Fayette High School and was employed and retired as a Seamstress with Lyons Fashion in McAlisterville.

Mrs. Horning was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in McAlisterville where she was a part of the Willing Workers and was also a former member at the Lost Creek Golf Course in Oakland Mills.

Her hobbies included golfing, participating in state bowling tournaments, and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the Rev. Erin Bovendam officiating.

Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.

A viewing will be held 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 6, 2020 at the funeral home.
