Obituary for Matilda Jane Geedey (Howie)



Matilda Jane Geedey, 60, of Mifflintown, passed away at 6:59 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Geisinger Lewistown Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born on November 29, 1958 in Johnstown, Cambria Co., she is a daughter of the late Edwin and Irene (Bennett) Howie.

On June 20, 1981 at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Mifflintown, she was married to her surviving husband, Rick Geedey, with whom she was blessed to share more than 38 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Diana L. Raffa and her husband David of Mifflintown; two brothers, Daniel Howie and his wife Ruth of Mercersburg and Phil Howie of McAlisterville; and her father in law, Raymond Geedey of Mifflintown

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother in law, Mary A.J. Geedey.

Mrs. Geedey was a 1976 graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School in Johnstown and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mifflintown where she was a part of the Hospitality Committee and was an AWANA Leader.

Matilda enjoyed shopping, cooking, vacations with her family to Ocean City, MD, spending time with her cat, Twilight, reading, and spending time at their family’s cabin, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her husband, daughter, son in law, and family. .

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from the First Baptist Church, 23964 Route 35 North, Mifflintown, with Pastor Ronald Shupe officiating.

Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nook.

A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Geedey’s memory can be made to the Juniata County Pet Pantry, P.O. Box 3, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
