Ethel L. Horning, 84, of Thompsontown, passed away at 6:20 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born on March 4, 1934 in Greenwood Township, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Light. On July 18, 1970 she married her surviving husband Clifford P. “Cliff” Horning, with whom she was blessed to share more than 48 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Barbara Crum, of York, Suzanne Eichman, of Harrisburg, Michael Horning, of Thompsontown, James Horning, Idaho, a sister, Florence Goodling, of Selinsgrove; three grandchildren, Adam, Alison, and Cortney; and four great-grandchildren, AunaLeiha, Anya, Alec, and Harlow.

A sister, Blanche Scholl, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Horning was a 1951 graduate of Greenwood High School and she retired in 1989 with 35 years of service from the Pennsylvania State Government, where she served as the Secretary for the Secretary of Education.

She was a member of the Thompsontown United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and she was a longtime faithful volunteer for the Thompsontown Ambulance League where she served as a Driver and Secretary/Treasurer.

Ethel was an avid dirt track racing fan following the local dirt track circuit throughout Central PA and during the winter months, she enjoyed traveling to Florida to watch dirt track racing. Also, she enjoyed crocheting; however, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 from the Thompsontown United Methodist Church, West Main St., Thompsontown with the Rev. Andrew Burd-Harris officiating. Interment will be private at a later date in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the church.

For those who desire, memorial contributions in Mrs. Horning’s memory may be made to Thompsontown United Methodist Church c/o Anise Page, 295 Sycamore Dr., Thompsontown, PA 17094.
