Obituary for Bernice J. Bassler (Trimble)



Bernice J. Bassler, 96, of Richfield, passed away at 6:40 PM on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 26, 1922 in Sterling, IL, she is a daughter of the late Harry S. and Bessie (Frank) Trimble. On November 3, 1945 in Ridott, IL, she married Clair P. Bassler with whom she was blessed to share over 55 years of marriage before his passing on April 7, 2001.

Surviving are her children: Janet E. Sparks of Dillsburg, David L. Bassler and his wife Mary and Steven D. Bassler and his wife Vickie all of Mount Pleasant Mills; three sisters, Beulah Shippie of Chandler, AZ. Margery Rose of Loves Park, IL, and Carol Beazley of Mansfield, IL; two brothers, Marvin Trimble of Freeport, IL, and John A. Trimble of Dakots, IL; seven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Marian Lapp, Ruth Byle, and Gerrie Whitney and two brothers, James F. and Roger L. Trimble.

Earlier in life, Bernice, along with her husband and his family, operated the family butcher shop in Richfield. Later, she was employed and retired as a food service worker at the Selinsgrove Center, retiring in 1984.

Mrs. Bassler was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church who enjoyed quilting, crocheting, working on word search puzzles, cooking for her family, and participating in bingo at the Richfield Senior Living Center.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 beginning at 11:00 AM at the Richfield United Methodist Church, 90 Church St., Richfield, with Pastor Kenneth Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in McAlisterville.

A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernice’s memory to the Richfield United Methodist Church, 90 Church St., Richfield, PA 17086.
